Find out whether you have arches that are high, low, or neutral and look for shoes that provide adequate support for you arches. You should also find shoes that fit your heels closely and that allow you to wiggle your toes. Ensure that your toes fit into the toe-box and that you have ½ inch of space between your toes and the end of the shoe.
